Why did Judas betray Jesus? Jesus loved him.

Why did Judas do it? Why did he betray Jesus? Jesus loved him. He was one of the Twelve Jesus chose to walk with Him day by day for three years. How could he do it?  Judas saw the good, the love, the care, the healing and forgiveness Jesus poured out to every person. No matter the need or the deed, Jesus healed and forgave with all His heart and all His strength. But Judas betrayed Jesus. Were 30 pieces of silver enough to cover his broken soul and heal a heart torn by sin and shame?

Why did Peter deny Jesus? Jesus loved him.

Why did Peter do it? Why did Peter deny Jesus? Jesus loved him. Peter was one of the Twelve Jesus chose to walk with Him day by day for three years. How could he do it? Peter saw Jesus touch the lepers, wash the unclean, forgive the unfaithful, and cure the demon-possessed. Jesus denied no one the right to be healed, restored, and renewed by the power of His word. But Peter denied Jesus, not once, not twice, but three times. Was saving face by denying Him enough to cover a broken soul and heal a heart torn by sin and shame?

Why do we deny and betray Jesus? Jesus loves us.

Why do we do it? Why do we deny and betray Jesus? Jesus loves us. Before He laid the foundation of the world He chose us to walk with Him day by day for all eternity. He created us in His own image because it pleased Him. He was pleased to create you and me. Yet we have denied and betrayed Jesus. Even though we have been saved through His grace, Christians are not perfect. If we are honest, we’ve all pretended we didn’t know Him, or understand His will. Even as Christians we have all turned from following Him to follow our own plans. Are our filthy rags enough to cover our broken souls or heal a heart torn by sin and shame?

Why did Jesus do it? Because He loves us.

Why did  Jesus do it? Why did He create, call, heal, forgive, transform, restore, and love people like me, like us? He takes our guilt, our sin, our shame, and washes us clean, calls us by name and we are His. Why did Jesus do it? Because of His great love. His blood poured out on the cross was enough to cover our broken souls and hearts torn by sin and shame. It is finished. Our debt is paid, our shame and sin are finished, and there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Because of Love.

Because of a God, who so loved the world (you and me) that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

That’s how. That’s why. Because of Love.

Happy blessed Easter.
