Silence

In February,  I went to the Ash Wednesday service at King of Glory Church in Carmel, IN. About halfway through the service, the service bulletin directed the congregation to participate in the spoken prayer shown above.

I was immediately drawn to the “fast from and feast on…” prayers because so many of them rang true with me. A few days ago, I was reading through the list again and thought, What if I took one prayer and made it my focus for the entire day? Then the next day, I could focus on another one, slowly working my way through the list.

Right now, I am living out of my small 18-foot travel trailer for a month while we travel. So, I decided to start with this prayer:

To fast from discontent and feast on gratitude.

Gratitude Time

I love my adventure in my camper, but I keep finding myself focusing on things I miss. I really miss having ice cubesThis isn’t as comfortable as my bed at homeThis refrigerator is too small … and so on.

It’s time for me to fast from discontent and be grateful for my adventure! Every time a discontented thought pops into my head, I will replace it with a gratitude thought.

What about you? Is there a “fast from feast on” Lent prayer that you would like to start with to prepare your heart for Easter? Select one that resonates with your current situation and move on from there.

I’d love to hear what you choose. Feel free to comment below.

* Thank you to King of Glory Church for letting me post their prayer.
