Silence

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. Isaiah 9:2

Most of us are familiar with the childhood game of Blind Man’s Bluff, in which a person who is it tries to tag other players while blindfolded. Blundering and chaos are part of the game until a new it is tagged. This harmless game is a good description of our condition before we came to a saving knowledge of Christ. We wandered and blundered in the darkness, tripping and falling without a light to guide us. We were people that walked in darkness.

The people that walked.

The word walk used in the above verse has a very interesting meaning in Hebrew. As expected, halak means to walk about, to proceed, to move, to go, but it also means to live, a manner of life, to behave. In the Bible walking is not just about moving, but it’s also about living. Furthermore, the way we walk (the manner in which we live) often determines where we end up. In the second part of verse two, we see the word walked is replaced with dwell and darkness is renamed as the land of the shadow of death. If we walk in darkness, we end up living in the land of the shadow of death.

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light:

But the Star of Bethlehem came at Christmas and shone His glorious light for all to see. We have seen His great light, we who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death. No longer do we have to wander in the darkness; the Light of the world has illuminated another path, another way. He is that Way.

What better time to receive the Light of the Lord than now. Tell Him that you accept His Light and His death on the cross as payment for your sin. And He will deliver you from the land of the shadow of death to the kingdom of His great love. He will never leave you, nor forsake you.

His Presence and His Word

The light of Jesus comes to us through HIs presence and His Holy Word. What can you do to add more of the Light of Jesus to your life?

Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for You are with me … And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:4,6

Amen.
