A Little Gift

Silence

She didn’t have much to give.  Since her husband died years ago she was low on everything: money, time, grace, energy. Her gift was so small she had a hard time believing  it would benefit anyone. It was just a little gift.

Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans.  So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood. Luke 21:1-4

If only she were rich she would give everything. Think of what God could do then. But wait. Even though she only had a little, couldn’t she still give everything? Was her faith big enough to give a little gift?

Faith plus a little gift.

She reached a workworn hand into her pocket and pulled out her two mites. It was all she had left. She dropped the mites into the temple collection box and walked towards home.

God honors little gifts.

Five loaves, two fish, a handful of flour, two mites. He even spotlights little gifts. It’s the little gifts that are recorded in Scripture, publicly announced by our Savior, and to our amazement greatly used to bless many. Why? because God has room to work a big miracle with a little gift. Our little gift plus His grace equals a miracle. People are healed, souls are saved, and lives are changed.

The greatest little gift.

At Christmas time, God gave us the greatest little gift. A baby. Unto us a child is born. Unto us a son is given. What could a baby do for a nation in need of deliverance? God’s plan at Christmas was not about what Jesus was (a baby) but what He would become (the Lamb of God). God sees you the same way. His plan for you is not about what you were/are but what He will make you become.

His plan for you is something good, real, miraculous and beautiful. You will accomplish His plan for you when you give your little gift.

Give a little gift.

This Christmas. mix your little gift with faith and give all you have to your Father. And God will use your gift to bless many.

Merry Christmas.

Wow. I just love this. How God spotlights the little gifts and gift givers in the Bible and how God takes our little selves and helps us become what He wants us to be. Lots to think about here!
